About Dr. Tyson Sawchuk
Dr. Tyson Sawchuk is registered psychologist and internationally recognized clinician-scientist in the field of psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) and functional neurologic disorders (FND). He has over 18 years of clinical experience as a medical psychologist working in neurosciences at a pediatric teaching hospital, where he has developed psychophysiology protocols for treatment of migraine/headache and somatic symptom disorders. As a professor of medicine, Dr. Sawchuk has published over 20 scientific articles relating to study of PNES / FND features, diagnosis and treatment approaches. His primary clinical interests are in improving care for patients suffering from chronic headache and somatic disorders.
SERVICES
In-Person Services for FND at MAGIC Clinic (Calgary)
Dr. Sawchuk recently established his FND services at M.A.G.I.C. clinic (Metabolics and Genetics in Canada) in order to provide specialized diagnostic and treatment services for patients suffering from FND. His assessment and treatment services are focused on confirming FND diagnosis; while treating symptoms through a combination of emotion processing and autonomic nervous system hyperarousal, via psychophysiology and cognitive-behavioral approaches.
NOTE: Dr. Sawchuk's clinic is located 5 minutes from the Calgary International Airport (YYC) and special hotel rates are available for out-of-province patients wishing to undergo comprehensive clinical and autonomic assessment over 1-2 day period. Patients are provided with written documentation of their diagnosis and recommended treatment plan, which is then used to support implementing treatment in their home community. Local providers can be supported thereafter as needed over telehealth consultation.
