About Dr. Tyson Sawchuk
Dr. Tyson Sawchuk is registered psychologist and internationally recognized clinician-scientist in the field of functional seizures (PNES) and functional neurologic disorders (FND). He has over two decades of clinical experience as a medical psychologist in a pediatric teaching hospital, where he has developed psychophysiology protocols for treatment of various somatic symptom and migraine/headache disorders. As a professor of medicine, Dr. Sawchuk has published over 20 scientific articles related to the study of PNES / FND features, diagnosis and treatment approaches. His primary clinical interests are in improving care for patients suffering from functional and chronic headache disorders.
SERVICES
In-Person Services for Functional Neurologic Disorder at MAGIC Clinic (Calgary)
Dr. Sawchuk established his private clinical services at M.A.G.I.C. Clinic (Metabolics and Genetics in Canada) in 2024 with a focus on specialized diagnostic and treatment services for patients suffering from FND. His assessments are focused on confirming FND diagnosis and identifying psychiatric comorbidity; followed by individual treatment targeting emotion processing and regulation of the autonomic nervous system, via psychophysiology and cognitive-behavioral approaches. Multidisciplinary referrals are also made where indicated, in the management of functional movement disorders and in some cases, family therapy.
NOTE (Out-of-Province Patients): Dr. Sawchuk's clinic is located 5 minutes from the Calgary International Airport (YYC) and accommodates a comprehensive clinical and autonomic assessment over 1-2 day period, leading to written documentation of diagnosis and recommended treatment plan for use home communities. Local providers may be supported thereafter as needed over telehealth consultation.
